About W4ATC

W4ATC is NC State University’s amateur radio club, established in 1930. We are welcoming to all students and faculty regardless of major or experience. Currently, W4ATC has around 45 FCC-licensed members who are always welcome to use our state-of-the art radios at our shack in EB2 on Centennial Campus.

When necessary, our club participates in emergency response efforts, such as in 1984 when our club acted as Emergency Net Control during the relief efforts following that year’s devastating tornado outbreak. Most of the time, though, these services are not needed and our equipment is instead used to connect with other amateur radio operators both locally and worldwide.

When able, we also participate in several contests throughout the year including field day, the North Carolina QSO party, the ARRL VHF/UHF Sweepstakes, and our biggest contest, the Collegiate Championships / ARRL November Sweepstakes. This is our way of competing with other college amateur radio clubs all over the U.S. We also enjoy rag chewing on our repeater or with our equipment at our shack at Engineering Building #2, Room 3050. We have even talked with the MIR Space Station

W4ATC hosts a weekly net which all licensed operators are welcome to join. The net is hosted on the W4ATC repeater atop DH Hill library, with a frequency of 442.675, offset of +5 MHz, and a tone of 100 Hz. We ‘meet’ every Tuesday night at 8:00 pm while classes are in session during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Come by and visit our shack or e-mail us for more information on club activities. You are also invited to join our Discord server, https://discord.gg/h7s3VBwm, where we discuss club activities, talk about ongoing projects, and are always happy to talk about anything related to radio.
