Activities
W4ATC
participates in many activities throughout the year. We provide communications
for the NCSU Women's Center event Take Back the Night. We also offer free
radiograms that can be sent all over the world. We also enjoy amateur radio
contesting. In addition, during times of emergency, the club takes an active
role in providing communications. In fact, on March 28, 1984, tornadoes
hit eastern North Carolina, leaving 44 dead, 807 injured, thousands homeless,
and millions of dollars in property damage. Six counties were declared
disaster areas. W4ATC worked as Emergency Net Control, passing priority
and health-and-welfare traffic to aid the emergency efforts.
Here
is an article about the event from page 1 of the March 30, 1984 issue of
Technician, NCSU's student newspaper.
